Playful Productions produced the world première of the original play of The King’s Speech, which ran at Wyndham’s Theatre from March to May 2012. Written by David Seidler before it became a film for which he won both the Academy Award® and BAFTA for Best Screenplay, and directed by Adrian Noble, the production starred Charles Edwards as George VI, Jonathan Hyde as the King’s speech therapist Lionel Logue and Emma Fielding as Queen Elizabeth. The set and costumes were designed by Anthony Ward, with lighting design by Mark Henderson, sound design by Mic Pool, projection design by Jon Driscoll and casting by Gabrielle Dawes CDG.

The King’s Speech was produced by Playful Productions and Michael Alden.

“The original play is better than the film: more about Logue’s long-suffering wife, more about the politics and a fantastic, moving, funny, credible central performance from Charles Edwards… beautifully staged” The Times ★★★★

“The King glides from screen to stage without a stutter. The cast is superb… Adrian Noble directs a production that is elegant, lucid and witty” The Telegraph
