Playful Productions general managed the world première of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which opened on 25 June 2013 and played at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. This new West End musical was directed by Academy Award® winner Sam Mendes, with book by David Greig, music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman.

Choreography by Peter Darling, set and costume design by Mark Thompson and music supervision by Nicholas Skilbeck. Lighting design by Paul Pyant, sound design by Paul Arditti, video and projection design by Jon Driscoll and puppet and illusion design by Jamie Harrision. Adult casting by Pippa Ailion CDG and children’s casting by Jessica Ronane CDG. At the 2014 Olivier Awards, Mark Thompson was awarded the Olivier Award for Best Costume Design and Paul Pyant and Jon Driscoll were awarded the Olivier Award for Best Lighting Design.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was produced by Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, Langley Park Productions and Neal Street Productions.
