The Sheffield Theatres production of Don Carlos by Friedrich Schiller, in a new adaptation by Mike Poulton, transferred to the Gielgud Theatre for a limited season, sell-out run from 28 January to 30 April 2005. Directed by Michael Grandage, the production starred Derek Jacobi as Philip II and Richard Coyle as Don Carlos, and was designed by Christopher Oram, with lighting design by Paule Constable, music and sound design by Adam Cork and casting by Anne McNulty CDG. Paule Constable won the 2006 Olivier Award for Best Lighting Design.

The Sheffield Theatres production of Don Carlos was presented at the Gielgud Theatre by Matthew Byam Shaw, Act Productions and Matthew Mitchell.
